Comparison Exercise

We have selected the 1st floor plan of a standard 4 bedroom house and illustrated each of the different light and switch wiring systems for comparison. The 3 light and switch wiring systems shown are the:

  • Single junction box radial wiring system
  • Loop-in ceiling rose wiring system
  • Surewire light and switch wiring system

Click on the buttons below to see the various comparison diagrams.

Surewire Light and Switch Wiring System

Surewire Light and Switch Wiring System

  • 1 SW6L-MF Surewire 6way pre-wired maintenance free light and switch junction box
  • 39 core connections
  • Wires cut to the same length
  • Easy to add additional light and switch connections
  • Junction box and connections in one location
Single Junction Box Radial Wiring System

Single Junction Box Radial Wiring System

  • 6 4way single junction boxes
  • 69 core connections
  • Wires cut to a variety of different lengths
  • Had to add additional light and switch connections
  • Junction boxes and connections in various locations
  • Cables not strain relieved
Loop-in Ceiling Rose Wiring</br> System

Loop-in Ceiling Rose Wiring System

  • 6 loop-in ceiling roses
  • 51 core connections
  • Hard to add additional light and switch connections

Loop-in ceiling roses are difficult to wire with 3 cables to strip, bend and wire with limited space available.  All wiring has to be done above head height which isn’t good ergonomics for the electrician leading to neck and arm strains.  End users don’t like loop-in ceiling roses as they have to be removed to accommodate modern light fittings, leading to complex wiring and extra expense.
